Google Ads for candle brands

Short answer

Candles sit closest to LocaliQ's shopping, collectibles and gifts category, which in 2026 paid $4.14 a click and $49.40 per conversion. A first candle order rarely covers that on its own. Candle brands make Google pay through reorders, because a candle burns down and a customer who likes the scent buys it again.

LocaliQ 2026 Search Advertising Benchmarks, US search campaigns, April 2025 to March 2026. LocaliQ reports cost per lead; for a store, read it as cost per conversion, which can include actions other than purchases. Shopping and Performance Max costs are not broken out.

LocaliQ doesn't publish a candle or home fragrance row. Shopping, collectibles and gifts is the nearest, since many candles are bought as gifts.[1] Home and home improvement is mostly contractors and is shown only for scale.

What sets a candle brand's CAC

  • Reorder rate. A customer who rebuys the same scent three times can justify three times the first-order CAC. Measure it before you set targets.
  • First-order size. A single $32 candle struggles at a $49 cost per conversion. Trios, discovery sets and two-candle bundles change that.
  • Scent names. Shoppers search by note (fig, cedar, tobacco vanilla) and by season (pumpkin, balsam). A title built on a poetic name hides the scent.
  • Gift timing. Q4 brings the most searches and the highest click prices. Margins have to hold up through December.
  • Wax and wick. Soy, coconut and beeswax buyers search for those words. Put the wax in the title and the ads.

First-order and reorder CAC for a sample candle brand

A made-up soy candle brand has a $48 average order and a 65% gross margin. Its customers place about three orders a year.

$48 average order, 65% gross margin

Break-even ROAS: 1 / 65%1.54x
Highest CAC on the first order: $48 x 65%$31.20
Highest CAC over 3 orders a year: $31.20 x 3$93.60
First-order ROAS at the shopping and gifts cost per conversion: $48 / $49.400.97x

On the first order the brand loses a little at the gifts benchmark. Over a year of reorders the same customer is worth about three times the first-order CAC limit, which is why candle brands set Google targets from repeat revenue and win the second order through email and SMS.

Campaign mix for a candle brand

Scent is hard to sell through a screen, so the mix puts the product image and the scent notes in front of the shopper before the click.

Feed and title tips for candles

Titles can run to 150 characters, and shoppers usually see 70 or fewer.[2] In candles the scent has to sit in those first words.

  • Scent notes first, then wax, then size in ounces and burn time, then the collection name.
  • Give burn time in hours. It's the number gift buyers compare between jars.
  • Make each size its own variant (travel tin, single wick, 3 wick) with its own title.
  • List gift sets and discovery trios as separate products with their own images.
  • Put seasonal scents in a custom label so their campaigns can be switched off on December 26.

Candle seasons and budgets

Candle demand climbs from September with fall scents and peaks from mid-November to mid-December with gifting. Mother's Day and Valentine's Day bring smaller gift peaks, and summer is quiet for most brands. Seasonal scents stop selling almost overnight, so pause pumpkin and balsam product groups when their season ends and move the budget to year-round scents.

For a short sale, a seasonality adjustment tells Smart Bidding to expect a higher conversion rate; Google recommends it for events of 1 to 7 days and says it's less effective beyond 14.[5]

CBD candles and wellness claims

Google lists candles among the topical CBD products it allows, but only hemp-derived products with 0.3% THC or less, with LegitScript and Google certification, and only in California, Colorado and Puerto Rico.[3] A CBD candle line needs its own campaign with that location targeting.

Aromatherapy copy needs care too. Google restricts products marketed as effective against disease without government approval.[4] Describe the scent and the mood; leave out claims about anxiety, insomnia or headaches.

Common questions

How much does Google Ads cost for a candle business?

You set the budget. LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmarks have no candle row; the nearest, shopping, collectibles and gifts, averaged $4.14 per click and $49.40 per conversion with 4.01% of clicks converting. Shopping and Performance Max costs aren't broken out.

Can a candle brand be profitable on Google Ads?

Usually on the second or third order more than the first. Work out what a customer is worth over a year of reorders and set the CAC limit from that. Bundles and two-for offers raise the first order, which shortens the wait.

What should go in a candle product title?

The scent first, then the wax, size and burn time, then your collection name. People search for "sandalwood soy candle" or "large 3 wick candle" far more than for a collection name they haven't heard of.

Can I advertise CBD or aromatherapy candles on Google?

CBD candles fall under Google's CBD rules: only topical, hemp-derived products with 0.3% THC or less, with certification, targeting California, Colorado and Puerto Rico. For aromatherapy candles, avoid claims that a scent treats anxiety, insomnia or any condition, since Google restricts products marketed as effective against disease without approval.
