Google Ads for fragrance brands

Short answer

Fragrance falls in LocaliQ's beauty and personal care category, which paid $4.62 a click and $39.25 per conversion on search in 2026. A full bottle usually carries that cost comfortably, so the harder problem is that shoppers can't smell an ad. Titles that name the scent notes, a discovery set as the first purchase, and negatives for dupe and tester searches do most of the work.

What drives fragrance ROAS

  • Blind-buy risk. Shoppers hesitate on a full bottle they've never smelled, which holds conversion rates down on cold traffic.
  • Discovery sets. A low-priced sampler gets the first order and lets the customer pick a full bottle later.
  • Dupe and designer searches. Many fragrance searches name a designer scent, and those clicks rarely buy an independent brand.
  • Bottle size. Offering 10 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml changes order value a lot, and each size needs its own listing.
  • Q4. A large share of the year's sales land in the gifting weeks, when click prices rise.

Full-bottle ROAS for a sample fragrance brand

A made-up independent perfume house sells 50 ml eau de parfum. Its average order is $110 at a 65% gross margin.

First-order ROAS at the beauty and personal care cost per conversion: $110 / $39.252.80x
First-order ROAS at the shopping and gifts cost per conversion: $110 / $49.402.23x

Full bottles clear break-even at either benchmark. Discovery sets are the harder sell on paper: a $30 sampler at the same margin needs a cost per sale under $19.50, so give sets their own campaign and measure how many buyers return for a full bottle within 90 days.

Campaign mix for a fragrance brand

Keep full bottles, discovery sets and gift sets in separate campaigns. Their order values and targets are too far apart to share a budget.

Feed and title tips for fragrance

Merchant Center titles can use up to 150 characters, and the first 70 or so are what shoppers see.[2] Concentration, scent family and size go early.

  • State the concentration: eau de parfum, eau de toilette, extrait or perfume oil.
  • Name the top notes or scent family in the title, since that's how shoppers search for an unknown brand.
  • Make each bottle size its own variant with its own image and size value.
  • Title discovery sets by number of vials and size so shoppers know what they're getting.
  • Keep designer names out of your own scents' titles and descriptions.

Fragrance seasons and budgets

November and December dominate, with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the last two weeks before Christmas as the heaviest days. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day are the other gifting spikes. Fresh and citrus scents pick up in summer, warm and gourmand scents in autumn.

Shift budget toward full bottles and gift sets before each peak, and keep discovery sets running year round. For a 1 to 7 day promotion, add a seasonality adjustment so Smart Bidding expects the conversion rate jump.[4]

Trademarks and dupes in fragrance ads

Merchant Center doesn't restrict trademarks in titles or descriptions for trademarked or compatible products, and Google reviews claims from trademark owners who think a listing confuses shoppers about where a product comes from. It warns at least 7 days before suspending an account.[3] For an independent house, the safe route is to sell your own scents on their notes and leave designer names out of titles, descriptions and ads.

Common questions

How much do Google Ads cost for a perfume brand?

The budget is up to you. For planning, LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmarks show beauty and personal care at $4.62 per click and $39.25 per conversion. Fragrance isn't split out in that report, and Shopping costs aren't published by category.

How do you sell a scent online through Google ads?

Describe it in words people search: the scent family (woody, floral, gourmand), the main notes and the occasion. Then lower the risk of a blind buy with a discovery set or sample size, and send ads for those to their own product pages.

Can I use a designer fragrance name in my Google Shopping titles?

Google doesn't restrict trademarks in titles or descriptions for trademarked products or compatible products, and it reviews complaints from trademark owners. A brand selling an "inspired by" scent that uses a designer's name risks those complaints. Describe your own scent's notes instead.

What ROAS should a fragrance brand target?

Break-even is 1 divided by gross margin; at 65% that's about 1.54x. Discovery sets often run below break-even on the first order, so judge them on how many buyers come back for a full bottle.

Does RunAds run Google Ads for fragrance brands?

Yes. RunAds is an AI agent that builds Shopping, Performance Max and Search campaigns for full bottles and discovery sets, writes the ads and checks the account daily. You approve every launch, and signing up is free.
