Google Ads for hair care brands
Hair care sits inside LocaliQ's beauty and personal care category, which paid $4.62 a click and $39.25 per conversion on search in 2026. Shampoo and conditioner run out every couple of months, so a hair care brand can pay more for a first sale than the order is worth, as long as customers reorder. Name the hair type in every title, and keep growth and scalp claims cosmetic or Google's healthcare rules apply.
Hair care costs from the beauty category
| Category | Data period | Cost per click | Click-through rate | Conversion rate | Cost per conversion |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty & Personal Care[1] | Apr 2025 to Mar 2026 | $4.62 | 6.75% | 10.35% | $39.25 |
| All industries[1] | Apr 2025 to Mar 2026 | $5.42 | 6.64% | 8.18% | $66.69 |
This is the nearest category in LocaliQ's 2026 report. It groups hair care brands with salons and other beauty businesses, and no source we could read at the source has a hair-care-only row.[1]
What drives hair care results
- Reorder rate. The size of the bottle and how often customers come back decide the CAC you can afford.
- Hair type match. Curly, fine, color-treated and thick hair are different searches with different buyers.
- Bundles. Sets raise order value, which matters when a single bottle sells for under $30.
- Claim wording. Growth and scalp language that drifts into treatment gets products restricted.
- Salon brand competition. Professional brands bid on the same category terms, so specific hair-type searches are usually cheaper ground.
Refill economics for a sample hair care brand
A made-up brand sells a curl shampoo, conditioner and leave-in. Its average order is $56 at a 72% gross margin, and customers reorder about three times a year.
$56 average order, 72% gross margin
At the category benchmark the first order sits just above break-even, and the reorders are where the profit comes from. Track repeat revenue by the campaign that won the customer, or the account will look worse than it is and you'll cut the campaigns that find reorderers.

Campaign mix for a hair care brand
Split the account by hair type wherever the product line is split that way. It keeps budgets and search terms readable.
| Campaign | Built from | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Performance Max (feed) | Asset groups by hair type (curly, fine, color-treated) | Main sales campaign. Use texture shots and results on real hair for each type. |
| Standard Shopping | Bundles and best-selling bottles | Shows the search terms behind sales, which you'll need for the negative list. |
| Search, brand | Brand name and product names | Protects reorders from customers who search your name. |
| Search, non-brand | Hair type plus product ("shampoo for fine oily hair") | Exact and phrase match, sent to the hair-type collection page. |
| YouTube and Demand Gen | Wash-day routines and before-and-after styling clips | Add after Shopping is profitable. Keep visual claims to how hair looks. |
Feed and title tips for hair care
Merchant Center titles allow 150 characters; most shoppers see about the first 70, so open the title with product type and hair type.[2]
- Put the hair type in the title: curly, coily, fine, thick, color-treated.
- Add the key free-from or ingredient terms shoppers filter on, such as sulfate free or silicone free, when they're true.
- State size in ounces or milliliters, and list liter refills as their own products.
- Title bundles by contents, for example shampoo and conditioner set.
- Describe results in cosmetic terms (fuller-looking, smoother, less frizz). Leave treatment wording out.

Hair care seasons and budgets
Hair care demand is steadier than most beauty categories because people run out year round. Summer lifts frizz and humidity searches, winter lifts dry scalp terms, and gift sets peak in November and December. Black Friday is still the biggest sales week for most brands.
For a short sale of 1 to 7 days, add a seasonality adjustment so Smart Bidding expects the higher conversion rate. Google says they're less effective for periods longer than 14 days.[4]
Growth and scalp claims on Google
Google's Shopping healthcare rules restrict products marketed as effective against a disease without government approval, and products that imply they work as well as prescription drugs.[3] For hair care, that means "regrows hair" or "treats hair loss" can move a shampoo into restricted territory, while "fuller-looking" and "thicker-feeling" describe a cosmetic result.
Drug-based treatments such as minoxidil are a separate case: check them against Google's healthcare policy before launch. Hair gummies follow the supplement rules on the supplements page.

Common questions
What do Google Ads cost for a hair care brand?
You choose the budget. LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmarks put beauty and personal care at $4.62 per click and $39.25 per conversion, with 10.35% of clicks converting. Hair care has no separate row, and the category also includes salons.
Can I advertise hair growth products on Google?
Cosmetic products can run, but wording matters. Google's Shopping rules restrict products marketed as effective against a disease without government approval, and products implying they work like prescription drugs. Describe what the product does to how hair looks and feels, and check drug-based treatments against Google's healthcare policy first.
How do I account for repeat purchases in a hair care ROAS target?
Work out gross profit per customer over a year, then decide how much of it you'll spend to win that customer. A brand whose customers reorder three times a year can afford a first-order ROAS below break-even on non-brand campaigns. Brand search should still clear break-even on its own.
Should I sell hair care bundles in Shopping?
Yes. A shampoo, conditioner and mask set has a higher order value than one bottle, so it carries a higher click price. List the bundle as its own product with its own image and a title that names what's inside.
Does RunAds work for hair care brands?
Yes. RunAds is an AI agent that builds the Shopping, Performance Max and Search campaigns, writes compliant ad copy and checks performance every day. You approve each launch and budget change. Signing up costs nothing.
