Google Ads for furniture stores

Short answer

Furniture has cheap clicks and slow buyers. In LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks a furniture search click cost $3.97, but only 2.99% of clicks converted, the second lowest of the 23 industries after finance and insurance, so each conversion cost $106.70. Large orders still make that affordable; the work is measuring sales over weeks, because a sofa shopper often clicks several times before buying.

Furniture has its own row in the 2026 report, though it mixes showrooms with online stores.[1] The home and home improvement row is mostly contractors and services and is shown for scale. A furniture click costs less than the all-industry average, and the cost per conversion is higher because so few clicks convert.

What drives furniture cost per sale

  • Consideration time. Shoppers measure, compare fabrics and come back. Short attribution windows undercount the campaigns that started the purchase.
  • Dimensions. A missing width or seat height stops the sale on the product page and pushes up the cost of every order that does happen.
  • Made-to-order waits. A twelve-week wait on a sofa costs conversions against in-stock rivals. Say the wait plainly on the product page, and push budget toward items that are ready now.
  • Order value. A $3,000 sectional and a side table can't share one target ROAS. Split the feed by price band.
  • Return cost. Bulky returns eat margin. Judge ROAS on kept revenue and watch return rates by product.

Break-even ROAS for a sample furniture store

A made-up online store sells sofas, dining sets and accent chairs. The average order is $1,400 at a 45% gross margin.

First-order ROAS at the furniture cost per conversion: $1,400 / $106.7013.12x

On paper the benchmark leaves a lot of room. Two things shrink it. LocaliQ's figure counts every conversion an advertiser tracks, so if a store counts swatch orders or showroom bookings, its cost per actual sale will be higher. And a returned sofa takes most of its margin with it. Set the first target ROAS well above 2.22x and tighten it with your own purchase data.

Campaign mix for a furniture store

Shopping carries furniture because the shopper sees the piece, the color and the price before clicking. Search picks up exact needs such as a size or material.

Feed and title tips for furniture

Titles can be 150 characters long, and shoppers usually see 70 or fewer.[2] In furniture the first words should be the piece and its size, since size decides whether it fits.

  • Piece type, then size, then material and color. "88 Inch Linen Sofa" matches far more searches than a collection name.
  • Include seat count for sofas and dining sets, and bed size for frames.
  • Submit color and material as attributes as well as in the title, so each fabric variant can match its own search.
  • If a piece has a manufacturer GTIN, submit it; Google says products with a GTIN submitted without one may get limited visibility.
  • Show the piece in a room as an additional image so shoppers can judge scale.

Furniture seasons and budgets

Furniture sales cluster around holiday weekends (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday) and around moving season in late spring and summer. Outdoor furniture runs from March to July and then drops away. Because buying takes weeks, the budget has to rise before the sale starts, while people are still researching.

For a holiday-weekend sale of 1 to 7 days, add a seasonality adjustment so Smart Bidding expects the jump in conversion rate. Google says they work less well beyond 14 days.[4]

Common questions

How much does Google Ads cost for a furniture store?

You set the budget. LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmarks put furniture at $3.97 per click and $106.70 per conversion, with 2.99% of clicks converting, the second lowest conversion rate of the 23 industries in the report. Shopping and Performance Max aren't broken out.

Why is the furniture conversion rate so low?

People rarely buy a sofa or dining table on the first visit. They compare sizes, order fabric swatches, measure the room and come back. Expect several clicks per sale, and set the conversion window and attribution in Google Ads long enough to credit the ads that started the visit.

What ROAS does an online furniture store need?

Break-even ROAS is 1 divided by gross margin, so a 45% margin needs about 2.22x. Furniture's large orders usually clear that comfortably at the benchmark cost per conversion; the bigger risks are returns of bulky items and counting swatch orders as if they were sales.

Should I count swatch requests as conversions?

Track them, but as a secondary conversion. If swatch orders sit in the same primary goal as purchases, Smart Bidding will chase the cheap swatch and your reported ROAS will mean little. Bid on purchases and watch swatches as an early signal.
